Oh…The Joys of Moving Pt. 2
by wid0w on May.18, 2008, under Personal
Let me say this right off the bat, I am a lazy person. I am partially moved into my new place, I still have a lot of stuff to pack from the old place. The major problem right now is the definate lack of electricity in the house. Due to that loss of electricity in the house I had to accelerate my plans to move, and it is really starting to make the moving process really difficult. I have to use flash lights to see and try to pack stuff, and that is just not working. I am going to need to be able to see to get the rest of my stuff packed, so I am going to have to figure out a way to light the basement. The power will have to get turned back on if any cleaning is going to be done there. I will be bringing stuff over in bits and pieces throughout the week, hopefully I can have everything out of there by this coming weekend. That would give me another week to clean the basement.
Once I get everything situated in the new place I will get some pictures taken of the new place and get them put up in the gallery. Once I get everything where I want it, I will be able to figure out what I am missing. So far my bedroom is pretty much finished other than obviously some stuff on the walls. The living room and kitchen are next, I will be bringing over the boxes I already have packed so that I can unpack them and reload them. Most of the stuff I have in boxes already is stuff that I never unpacked when I moved into the house. My pots and pans should be getting delivered tomorrow, so that will help a lot. I want to make this place look really nice. There is no reason why it can’t look amazing for what it is. I had to put out a little more money than I had planned on, so now I need to recover from this move, and I should be able to do some shopping to get some more stuff for this place. I already have some pictures for the walls, but I want some more stuff also, that can all come after I get things I need.
Anyway, I will post pictures of the new place when I get them.
Moving to Begin

So I got the call yesterday from the soon to be new Landlord. She was calling to let me know that I will be able to move in most likely this Thursday at the earliest. That will give me the last 2 full weeks of the month to get all of my stuff moved. I plan on starting to take some of the smaller stuff over as soon as I get the keys. I will still need to get some boxes to start packing the smaller stuff around the house up, but stuff like my home theater can go over as soon as I have a truck to move it in.
I am going to start figuring out tonight what all can go over Thursday and Friday. I should be all moved in by end of next week, which would give me a week to clean the basement at the old place. I am definately looking forward to the new place, I can’t wait until I don’t have to drive to work anymore. Plus I wont have to get up so early in the morning anymore, I can sleep in a little longer now…lol.
I really don’t want to set the new place up like I had it last time, as I didn’t really like that setup. Since I don’t have the cats this time that gives me a few more options as to what I can put where. I am still thinking that the computer desk will need to go in my bedroom, I am thinking about looking for a new desk though, something a little smaller would be nice. I am also thinking I will be setting up the living room a little differently than the last time. I will have to look at it when I get the keys, but the last time I lived there it was really crammed. Hopefully this time I can make it all fit a little easier.
As soon as I get a chance after I get the keys I will get some pictures taken to show what the place looks like. And after I get everything all setup I am sure I will take more pictures of the place. So as I get thru this move I will be adding stuff to the site. Obviously, for a day or two I will be down with no access to the web, once I get service setup at the address then I should be back online relatively quickly.

And once again it is that time, time to pack up what little shit I do own and move it all to some new place. You would think that as much as I have moved in the past that I would be a professional at it, but that is simply not the case. It is not that I don’t know how to move, it is more that I just don’t want to do it all over again. I think this time around I will try my best to get everything packed and ready to go before hand. Obviously to do that I will need boxes, so I guess I should probably start collecting all the big boxes I can find. This move I want to be quick and get it over with, I don’t want to be unpacking 3 weeks later. If all goes well I should be moved into my new place by May 25th, and have the whole last week of May to clean up my part of the old house.
I am glad that I am moving back over by my work, I really enjoyed living there before, and you can’t really beat being within walking distance of your place of employment. When its nice I wont need to drive to work, or go out to get something to eat for lunch. I will be able to just walk over to my apartment and fix me something eat. On top of the work convienence, I will also be within walking distance of the several fine drinking establishments. I imagine that I will be spending quite a bit of time over at Roosters, enjoying the nightlife. If those were not reasons enough to be looking forward to moving back behind my work, there is also a halfway decent titty bar within walking distance…lol. And lets not forget the numerous eating establishments in the general area as well. Overall, I am looking forward to getting settled into my new place.
The big thing for me is that I will finally be back out on my own again, no roommate. I have seriously come to the conclusion that roommates are usually not worth the savings. I would much rather get myself a nice 1 bedroom apartment than share a house or large apartment with a roommate. It never fails that at some point in time you will disagree with the roommate and things will go all bad from there. If the roommate happens to be of the opposite sex then I am sure exceptions can be made, but even in those cases a disagreement is usually inevitable. It has been my experience that in a roommate type situation where both parties are moving out and going their sperate ways, one party or the other ends up leaving the shared domocile with more belongings than they moved in with. This is usually because they either inadvertantly took stuff that belonged to the other person, or they intentionally took stuff that belonged to the other person. I try not to judge in those cases, all I usually ask is that whatever you take of mine please return it to me in a timely fashion and in the same condition it was in when you took it.
There is usually also issues with cleaning of the old place. But I am still hoping that it will not be as bad as it was the last time. I am hoping that I will come home one day and the entire upstairs portion of the house will be spotless like it prolly was when my roommate originally moved into the house. I am hoping that all I will need to clean is the basement of the house. I have never been a big cleaning kind of person, my apartments have always been kind of “bachelor” clean, in other words dirty. I am really gonna try to keep the new place semi clean, so I do not come off as a slob, like I am sure I do right now.
And these are the Joys of Moving!
