I So Like My Toys
by wid0w on Jul.03, 2009, under Computers, Personal, Software, Technology
I must admit that I really like my toys. My friends laugh at me when I spend my money on tech. I find that funny for some reason. I mean its tech, and I am a techie, is that a good reason to spend money on it. Sure there may be better things out there for me to spend my money on. But its my money, I earned it. Some people spend their money on pimping out their ride, others spend money on their wardrobe. I chose to spend my money on my techie toys.
So my most recent purchase was a Asus Eee PC 1005HA -P. Basically it s a rather loaded sub $400 netbook, excellent battery life, and a very portable shell. I order it from Amazon today and it should be here by Monday. It comes with XP Pro, which will last until I get the memory upgrade I ordered, then it will be switching to Windows 7 RC. I had been looking at netbooks for the past several months, seemed like something I could get some use out of. I am planning on doing some network upgrades here soon, and the built in Wireless N networking capabilities will be nice. I am very much looking forward to getting to play with this new toy as soon as it gets here on Monday, that may have to be a half day. Will have to see what the schedule says for that day.
I was able to sell my digital SLR camera, that gave me enough extra money to pick up the netbook. I had been trying to sell that thing for some time, not really sure why the hell I purchased it. I could have done some pretty nice upgrades tomy computers that I have now, or picked me up a nice flat panel TV. In hindsight that prolly would have been the better idea over the camera. While it certainly was a nice camera, it was rarely ever used. A small point and shoot digi is all I need, much easier to carry around, and therefore more likely to get used.
Here recently there have been quite a few amazing and somewhat unbelievable tech announcements made. I mean we are starting to see some really amazing advances in computers and other electronics. One of my favorite some far has been the Natal project for the Xbox 360. That has me excited to see what the future of console gaming has in store for us. I think we are going to see the next generation of video game controls. I am looking forward to it, but I know several people who just don’t see it that way. They are certainly not the Microsoft fanboys that I am, but I still kind of expected them to appreciate the technology. Instead I got the opposite reaction from them, they think it is a gimmick to catch them up to Nintendo. Because for some insane reason, they feel that Nintendo has this wonderful system. Sure the Wii controller is cool, but the games for it just do not impress me. Microsoft has the money to burn on a project like this, and I expect that we will see some amazing things come out of this nifty piece of tech.
Bottom line, with the upcoming Zune HD and Project Natal, I see a lot of really awesome things coming from Microsoft, and that is something I am looking forward to. I still have no idea where I want this blog to go, but I am thinking that so far it has taken a mostly technology based path. And I have a feeling that it will most likely continue down that path for quite some time to come.
